HCC is a non-profit, all volunteer organization. We exist for you, by you! Without your help we could not possibly offer all that we do! So, what might you be interested in? There is much to choose from and we’re always looking for more volunteers to help with the many activities. You may want to be very involved (board member), or just want to help out once in awhile (general meeting), maybe a little bit of both or something in between! As a volunteer, you may qualify for our Volunteer Perks.
THE FOLLOWING POSITIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR VOLUNTEERS NOW:
Greeters
We can always use more greeters to call on! A Greeter’s job is about a two hour stint. We ask you to come in 45 minutes before a class begins and report to the Director on Duty. You will sit at the door, check in members who arrive for the class, be sure they have their badge, and collect the class fee, along with some other responsibilities. Once the class has been in session for about an hour, the greeter is welcome to pack up all the equipment and return it to it’s place, hand fees to the DOD (Director on Duty) and their duty is done for the day. If that sounds interesting to you, then contact: Sandy Fisher: greeter@hcc.org
Instructor/Assistant
Job Description for Instructor: No actual teaching background is required. A working knowledge of the topic is a must along with a commitment to keeping up to date with any changes/improvements. Instructors must be able to deliver information on a very basic level. Talking over students heads will keep people from wanting to come back. Remember, we were all beginners at one time. For some it has been so long they will have to work at teaching at that very simple beginner level. Putting together an informative handout for your students is a major plus. Handouts should be more than just a list of what will be covered in class. Encouraging students goes miles toward having them return.
Job Description for Assistant: Usually, it will be a hands on class where an assistant will work, but not always. Assistants can take the load off an instructor by helping a student stay up-to-speed. An assistant’s job is not to be a one on one tutor during class however. Many of our now full time instructors started out this way, but some assistants remain at that level by choice.
