Hardware Clinic

IMPORTANT NOTICE: THE HARDWARE CLINIC IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. IF YOU ARRIVE ON A SATURDAY MORNING AND DO NOT HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, YOU MAY BE TURNED AWAY. 

On Saturdays, technicians are available to members for help with hardware problems, by appointment only. At this time, there is no fee for this labor, but donations are gratefully accepted (there is a charge for parts that we provide). You may choose to bring your own parts and we will install them for free*. When coming in for assistance, please bring your passwords and cell phone.

The following are examples of hardware problems.

Troubleshoot broken or slow computers:

  • Perform software tweaks, to improve efficiency.
  • Removal of malware.

Hardware upgrades:

  • Memory upgrade (add more RAM*)
  • Install Optical Drives* in desktops
  • Install Solid State Drives*  
  • Install Video Cards* in desktops

Software installation:

  • Install any purchased or free software requested

New computer set-up:

  • We’ll walk you through the Windows 11 setup on your new machine
  • Transfer files from your old computer to your new one
  • Download and install essential software and get you started on Win10 or 11 Updates.

Member Responsibility:

  • Members must bring computer and needed parts/peripherals to the HCC.
  • Members must bring a power cord for laptops.
  • Members must bring a list of passwords when setting up a new computer.
  • Members must bring the required cell phone or tablet, when accounts require two-point verification.

*If necessary, parts must be purchased by member. Our techs will help you decide what part, model and where to purchase. Please have a tech examine your computer before you make any purchases. Contact our tech@hcc.org.
